Beirut @ The Georgia Theatre
Wednesday, December 7th
In the perfect pre-finals, early December move I went to see Beirut at the Georgia Theatre last night. Part of the pleasure of it all was getting to see the newly refurbished Georgia Theatre after months of putting it off or not being able to go. If you’ve listened to Beirut, you know the music is very…delicate? No, that doesn’t seem accurate. It’s very…antiquated but relatable. The best part about the show is that they turned their brand of indie into dance music at some points or just made it more tangible than you could ever believe. It was a relatively short set but then again, Beirut songs are very short for the most part. Zach Condon sounded EXACTLY like he does on the albums, which is not surprising because when you have such a unique and beautiful voice, it’s impossible to create that in a studio. It comes from within. He was affable, his backing band had infectious energy (especially the drummer and second trumpeter) and it’s wonderful to see a group of such gifted multi-instrumentalists. Oh to live through that concert again…
